Jakub DeLoria - File 001
It's hard to say whether or not Kuba's fate was heavenly after the things he'd be forced to witness that evening. Days prior, the greaser was fined for exceeding the speed limit in an empty urban street, and he had finally gotten the money to pay the bill and get his bike back from the nearby police station where it was taken away from him.
He had a friend of his give him a ride and wait for him outside. Except for a wall of people at a nearby street, which would be easy to assume was some kind of protest or parade as they arrived, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Kuba made his way into the station, which was unusually quiet and under staffed, though they made no big deal of the situation. He went through the usual process, paid, and was told to wait until they had his bike ready outside after filling some papers.
A good 40 minutes had gone by of staring at the main clock over the front desk to pass the time. Nobody would blame him for getting bored after waiting for so long, but he was assured his bike was almost ready for the last several minutes, and they seemed to be having issues with the amount of people left at the station. Things were starting to get noisy outside, but Kuba hadn't heard anything from his friend, so he had nothing to do but wait it out until the officers at the front desk came rushing through the door leading outside.
Curiosity would end up taking the best of him as it seemed he had been left alone, and a look through the front doors would reveal complete chaos on the streets. It was breathtaking. People were eating each other on the streets, and a few of the officers he'd seen before laid dead on the staircase leading to the entrance. As one of the crazy human-looking monsters took note of him, he had no choice but to head back inside to escape the nightmarish view. He entered the first hallway he could find that led towards the back, looking for a way out.
Past the door, Kuba found his way to several offices, what seemed like an armory and a cafeteria at the back, but running through the hallway gave him no clues about any sort of exit. He could hear the front desk getting noisy already, things being trashed about, possibly telling him that there was no time to waste. The desperate man tried his luck breaking out through one of the offices with windows leading to the parking lot, but the glass was solid, it seemed bulletproof, even. Having made his way out, the armory was clearly locked with an electronic card reader.
Not giving him enough time to think of a better plan, one of the bloodied monsters slammed its way head first through the door that Kuba didn't bother locking up properly, standing between him and the only way out, soon blocking way to the offices as it tried to run past the doors towards him. Leaving him no other options, Kuba rushed to the cafeteria and locked the handle bars with the first thing he could find: a mop. Soon after, he could hear some desperate, furious banging on the door, but he could tell it wasn't a cry for help in the slightest. Tables soon followed, blocking the way to the door with solid weight and any furniture he could find.
It took hours for the banging to stop, and Kuba had plenty of time to witness what was going on through the few windows of the cafeteria. It was complete chaos, random people attacking each other; blood and numerous dead bodies. Soon what seemed like monsters started banging through the windows after witnessing Kuba, leaving their bloodied hands marked all over the thick glass. They were relentless, like they had no worries about getting tired of bored, and foamed blood at the mouth. Had it not been for their horrid and bestial appearance, they would seem human.
Kuba also witnessed strange things. The innocent soon rose to the surface from their dead shells, turning into more of these monsters. It was clear the streets weren't safe anymore, and whatever was out there was looking to have him turned as well. Could this be the pandemic the news had been making light of in the radio the past couple of days?

Days passed, almost too many to count. Were they 10? Kuba wasn't sure at this point, living off of the rations at the kitchen and the soon decaying foods after the electricity had died out. One of those rough mornings he'd finally woken up to some peace as the first rays of sun hit his face. He couldn't hear the screams outside anymore, only eerie silence... After looking through the windows, there were numerous, seemingly dead corpses lying all over the parking lot despite the soon scorching heat from the sun blasting on the dried pavement; though he already knew "they" didn't care and could very well stand up from the dead again if "they" tried. Was it safe to go outside? The few non spoiling supplies were starting to run out, and it wouldn't be clear if a chance like this would rise again.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
DeLoria looked through his supplies one more time. They seemed enough for now, but not for long. Also, the police station wasn't a safe place. There could be monsters roaming in the hallways, and sooner or later, they would break through his barricades and get to him. He checked clip in his custom handgun, it was full. "I guess I gotta find myself new place to chill at..." - He thought to himself. While packing up, before leaving, he was thinking of possible options of safe zones that he could have access to:
First there was the 1950's dinner he and his gang used to hang out in, it might be safe place due to shutters in windows and door that give some additional protection, not too big, not too small, located in rather quiet area where not many people lived. It shouldn't be swarming with monsters. Maybe there was even some food? He used to date a girl who was daughter of the bar's owner, she told him that they leave keys in the vase next to the front door, in case he wouldn't have place to sleep.
Then there was gas station he worked at, he had keys with him, the place was located in even more calm area than the 1950's diner, had no shuters aside windows, but door was dirty and hard to see through. It also had gas pumps, and if they still had gasoline left, Kuba could use them to fuel vehicles and make molotov cocktails.
Next option was Auto Mechanic Shop from which Kuba's gas station used to buy some supplies from time to time; as partners, Kuba's crew knew the passcode to the garage's keypad, which could open and close heavy shutter, and from inside he could reach into other rooms of the shop. It was medium-sized shop, garage was big and took up most of space. The area was more urbanized than the other options though, but not too much, still should be safe.
Last, but not least, he had his own apartment inside tenements in old town. He knew that keys should be left under doormat, and he should still have some supplies in there. It was on second floor, so there should be no zombies coming from balcony side, which also had emergency ladder option. The catch was that the area it was in was more or less the same urbanized as the workshop, and there could be some monsters roaming in neighbor apartments.
After he packed up and had time to think things over, he decided to go with the 50's diner. He double checked if he has what he needs and went outside, heading for the restaurant.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
An old, wise sounding voice echoed into Kuba's head: "You really didn't think it would be that easy, did you?"
Turns out, after taking off the barricades as careful as he could, there was still one of those things standing up in the middle of the hallway, lunging back and forth with stupor. It seemed as if it'd been there for all those days, as it was the same one that followed him before. Unfortunately, that one lone walking corpse stood through the only way he knew to freedom, though it hadn't noticed him yet while peeking through the door.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
"Not this time, Betty. We don't want to make too much noise" Kuba thought to himself, deciding to engage in combat, but without drawing possible nearby monsters with gunfire. At first he thought about using his leverlock pocket knife, but the blade wasn't too big and of only average sharpness... Not a good idea to combat a monster with just a switchblade. He looked around and grabbed a kitchen knife with larger blade than his switchblade from the kitchen, to use it as a temporary weapon.
"Alright sweet cheeks, you're going down" - Greaser quietly whispered to himself, holding the knife and entered the hallway, engaging in combat with a zombie.
Phase 1
Kuba tried to kill zombie by powerful slash and stab, but the monster survived the attack

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
Kuba gets an adrenaline boost, fearing that he will die and recovers his stamina back to 7!(used: Adrenaline Point)
Then, he grasps wooden handle of the kitchen knife firmly and stabs zombie with full force in chest; the monster flinches, giving Kuba time to act - he kicks zombie's head from the side, making the monster's head bash against the wall, collapsing on floor. The monster still seems to move a little, so angered greaser stomps on its head several times until its head is completely smashed under his chuck taylor's, like a rotten pumpkin.
"That was so damn crazy..." - He thinks to himself, takes a moment to breathe and then decides to move in direction of 1950's diner, hoping not to get into trouble anymore.
"I guess butcher knives are not my thing, I'll probably stick to switchblades" - He jokes to himself.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
With the monster on the hallway disposed, Kuba found his way out of the building relatively easy. However, the staircase that led down to the parking lot was completely swarmed with bodies lying around, as was the rest of the place out in the streets. His friend was gone, and he wouldn't be able to see his bike from there.
Probably not wanting to take many risks, he rushed out of the place jumping through the sea of bodies until he found a calmer street to walk on. Some of them seemed to be ready to wake up again and give chase, and some of them were already wandering aimlessly about, so it likely came as a relief he didn't stay longer than necessary, having earned his freedom from that chaos.
He'd continue to hide amidst crashed cars and rubbery until he made his way amidst the walking corpses into the diner. There were far less of those things, so it wasn't too hard to run past them, though he was already stating to get tired from the earlier struggle. Eventually, he'd see the diner in the distance, boarded down like he'd expect, with the occasional wandering corpse crossing the streets around it. It was definitely impossible to call a place like that safe, at least yet.

"Hmm... I think I have to secure this place somehow... Make sure no one uninvited would get in..." greaser thought to himself. He decided to carefully approach the building, avoiding being noticed by potential threat, so he could check if he can look inside to scan the place for potential threats and possible materials to make the place safe, like something to make a makeshift barricade.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
Upon gazing through the small openings he could find past the shutters, the place seemed pretty much untouched since the last time he was there. Perhaps the owner closed early or never got a chance to open that day. Besides the noisy monsters that surrounded Kuba, he couldn't hear or spot anything dangerous inside, and the furniture would likely do well as makeshift barricades. The real challenge would be getting inside without attracting unwanted attention, as by now he'd probably know just how aware those creatures surrounding him were, having to pray they wouldn't find him just crossing the street.
Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
"Hmm... A few days before police station, Cassidy said that she will leave keys in the vase next to door... let's see if they're still here." Kuba thought, and decided to check if keys are in the place the girl told him they are hidden in, carefully not to flip the vase.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
As it turns out, the keys to the shutters and the main door were nowhere near the vases, not even inside the dirt or all around. It's likely something happened when it all started. Whatever the reason, he'd have to find another way inside.
Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
"Well, here goes plan A... Let's see if it's possible to pick the lock" - He thought, slightly stressed, but doing his best to remain calm. He decided to inspect the lock to see if there is any chance for it to be picked with his pocket knife.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
All the shutters had a standard, solid padlock, and the doors inside were also likely locked behind reinforced glass. Kuba would know the owner wouldn't have kept his business any other way in such a heated area. He'd need something much thinner than his knife to pick the locks, and it could take several minutes each amidst the surrounding chaos.
Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
"There's gotta be a way in..." He thought. He looked around, scanning the restaurant with his eyes to see if there's anything overlooked in security system, anything he could use to his advantage to get in, things like not fully closed shutter or not fully closed drive-in, anything.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
Unfortunately for Kuba, only one door led into the place, unless he wanted to try his luck with the alleyway on the back that connected the place with some empty lot behind it. A few minutes of searching the front yielded no results on ways to get in other than forcing the locks. Makes sense, though, you wouldn't leave a place like that open through the night.
Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
Kuba decided to check alleyway on the back, but quietly at first, just a peek if there are any monsters before advancing.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
It doesn't take long for him to spot two bodies lying down by the door next to a dumpster, likely the place where they dumped the trash. The door would logically lead into the kitchen by the same logic.
Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
"If those two corpses get up, I would be as good as dead. I've gotta find another hideout it seems... I guess our gas station is my best shot now. It's not too far from there, I should be able to reach it..." - Kuba thought, deciding to be better safe than sorry. He couldn't risk waking two zombies up. He also hoped that there will be even less dangers near gas station, considering it's in even less populated area. He took a deep breath and headed for his workplace, the gas station.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
By the time he got there it was already mid day, the scorching heat of the sun starting to affect a slightly dehydrated Kuba after a long walk. The gas station was surrounded by noisy areas, but the place itself seemed rather calm, mostly untouched aside from a broken window. It was as good as he left it that fateful day, though someone likely found a way into one of the glass windows of the shop and left a mess around the shelves.
After getting closer it wasn't hard to see what whoever broke the window was doing. They seemed to have grabbed as many bags of chips as they could and rushed out in a hurry, somehow emptying the front shelves. Perhaps it was a big group? Perhaps they paid several visits there? There was no way to tell, but at the very least the place seemed safe and Kuba had a window to enter had he lost his key.

After inspecting the place, greaser relieved by calmness of the area reached to his chest pocket, unzipped it, took the gas station key, unlocked door and entered the building. He looked around for anything he could make makeshift barricades with.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
From the looks of the window, he'd need plenty to seal them away from the world outside. The door seemed solid, but the windows were breakable, and covered almost the entire front side of the shop. He could try barricading with the shelves, few tables, counters and appliances he could find if he tried, though, but it could take several hours.
Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
"I guess I gotta get to work" Kuba said to himself. He looked through his supplies, to check if he didn't forget to get something to drink, and decided to prepare barricades afterwards.

Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
There were still a good 20 days worth of food for himself tucked on the freezers on the back, mostly beverages and canned goods that would not spoil so quickly, along with a few hidden bags of chips that he knew they stored because they didn't have enough space on the shelves for them. It would take the rest of the evening to set up some makeshift walls against the windows of the gas station, shelves locked against the metal frames that supported the windows. However, it was hard to call it foolproof as it looked like it could be taken down if someone or something really tried.
Re: Jakub DeLoria - File 001
After drinking one bottle of first beverage that caught his eye, greaser proceeded to prepare barricades.
